On July 12, 2024, the world celebrates the multifaceted and inspiring journey of Edna Aninga, an exceptional woman who has seamlessly woven together the threads of artistry, journalism, design, and humanitarian work into a rich tapestry of success and service. Edna’s story is a testament to the power of passion, resilience, and dedication.
Edna’s journey began with a strong foundation in education and entrepreneurship. After earning a degree in Communication Studies from the Ghana Institute of Journalism in 2016, she managed her first business, The Aninga Baskets, which showcased beautiful handwoven baskets from Bolgatanga. This early venture set the stage for her future endeavors, combining her business acumen with a deep appreciation for her cultural heritage.
Upon graduating, Edna returned to Bolgatanga for her mandatory one-year National Service, teaching in a rural school in the Upper East region. Here, she made a significant impact on the children’s lives, providing both academic support and addressing their basic needs. This period reinforced her commitment to using her skills and resources to uplift her community.
Choosing to stay in Bolgatanga after her service, Edna immersed herself in her artistic passions, guided by her father, also an artist. Her discovery of her father’s old paintings ignited a deeper love for art, leading her to pursue it as a full-time business. In February 2017, she launched AZU Collections, a clothing line featuring unisex hand-painted wear that reflected her unique blend of art and fashion.
Edna’s innovative approach and dedication did not go unnoticed. In the same year, she received the World Remit and Miss GH UK Foundation award for Promising Young Female Entrepreneur, recognizing her use of art to educate society, especially young girls. Her accolades continued in 2018 with the MOBEK Business Excellence Award for Entrepreneur of the Year in Bolgatanga.
For five years, Edna worked tirelessly with women and girls, offering skills training, education, and mentorship while running her business. Her impact on her community was profound, and in 2021, she expanded her horizons by moving to Accra. Here, she ventured into design, decorating offices, homes, schools, and restaurants, further showcasing her versatile talents.
Edna’s creative expression extends beyond visual art. At the age of 11, she wrote her first handwritten storybook with illustrations, and she has since penned numerous children’s books awaiting publication. Her social media presence is marked by inspirational and humorous write-ups, reflecting her Christian faith, which plays a central role in her life. She uses every available medium to share her beliefs and inspire others.
In 2021, Edna joined the Ghana Police Service, adding another dimension to her multifaceted career. Concurrently, she is pursuing a Master’s Program in Gender, Peace, and Security at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Centre, underscoring her commitment to making a positive impact on society.
Today, Edna celebrates the release of her first published book, *Expressions of Life and Faith*, a culmination of her experiences, opinions, and faith. This book not only marks her official entry into the literary world but also serves as a platform for her to express her candid views on life and the importance of integrating the God factor.
