A gruesome murder has shaken Wa in the Upper West Region as a man in his thirties, identified as a truck driver’s conductor (mate), was discovered dead early Monday, July 15, 2024.
The victim, who was involved in handling bags of salt for delivery, met his tragic fate at the hands of unknown assailants, adding to a string of similar incidents this year. Truck driver Naa Daud Suleman recounted the harrowing events, noting he woke around 4:00 AM for prayers with his family only to discover the absence of his mate. After a frantic search, they followed a trail of blood droplets and found the victim a short distance from where he had slept.
The discovery has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting urgent calls for action from Zakaria Ibrahim, the assembly member for the area. “This marks the third murder under similar circumstances this year,” Ibrahim stated, emphasizing the need for immediate interventions to curb escalating violence. He proposed the establishment of community watchdog groups to enhance security in Wa Municipality and its environs.
Authorities are investigating the incident while residents express concern over the growing insecurity in the region.
