Bisa Kdei Rejects GH₵ 500 Royalty Payment from GHAMRO

Award-winning Ghanaian musician Bisa Kdei has recently made headlines by rejecting a royalty payment of GH₵ 500 from the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO).
The payment was for his popular songs “Brother Brother” and “Mansa,” which have enjoyed significant success both locally and internationally.
In a candid interview with Kumasi-based Angel FM, Bisa Kdei expressed his discontent with the amount, revealing that he was initially excited to receive royalties but was dismayed when he learned the total sum.
The artist’s frustration led him to inform GHAMRO officials that such a minimal amount was unacceptable and requested not to be contacted in the future for similar payments.
This incident has spotlighted ongoing concerns within the Ghanaian music industry about the effectiveness and fairness of royalty collections and distributions.

GHAMRO, responsible for managing music rights and ensuring artists are compensated for the use of their works, has faced criticism over its handling of royalties, with many artists questioning the transparency and accuracy of the payment process.
Bisa Kdei’s decision to reject the payment reflects a broader dissatisfaction among musicians regarding the current system. As the music industry continues to evolve, there is growing pressure on GHAMRO to address these concerns and implement reforms that will ensure fair compensation for artists’ creative contributions.
The situation emphasizes the need for a more transparent and equitable system to support the livelihoods of Ghanaian musicians.
