Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has announced ambitious plans to revolutionize Ghana’s aviation infrastructure.
During the NPP’s manifesto launch on August 18 in Takoradi, Bawumia revealed that a $2 billion investment from Korean investors has been secured for the development of Cape Coast Airport.
The project aims to enhance regional connectivity and stimulate economic growth. Bawumia highlighted that with the funding in place, construction of the Cape Coast Airport will begin promptly if he is elected. This initiative is part of his broader vision for expanding public infrastructure across Ghana.
In addition to the Cape Coast project, Bawumia pledged to construct a new airport in the Upper East Region. He emphasized that this new airport will play a crucial role in boosting trade, tourism, and investment in the northern sector of the country.
The Upper East Airport is expected to generate significant job opportunities during both its construction and operational phases, providing a vital economic boost to local communities.
Bawumia also outlined plans to establish a private-sector-driven Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Tamale Airport. This facility is intended to transform Tamale into a major hub for aviation cargo, horticultural cargo, and logistics.
“Our goal is to ensure that every region of Ghana benefits from world-class infrastructure,” Bawumia stated. “The Upper East Airport will be instrumental in fostering regional development, while the Cape Coast Airport will enhance our global connectivity.”
Bawumia’s proposals reflect a comprehensive strategy to advance Ghana’s aviation sector and promote balanced economic growth across the nation.
