Kurl Songx Reveals Sarkodie’s Verse on ‘Jennifer Lomotey’ Sparked Tensions, Leading to Peace Talks with Krobo Elders

Ghanaian Afro-pop sensation Kurl Songx has spoken out about the controversies stirred by Sarkodie’s verse on the 2017 hit song “Jennifer Lomotey.”

The track, which became an instant favorite, also ignited tensions due to its reference to a sensitive stereotype about Krobo women.

In the song, Sarkodie rapped about a Krobo woman allegedly cursed with promiscuity by the legendary Komfo Anokye, a lyric that did not sit well with many, especially within the Krobo community. This led to a strong reaction from the Krobo chiefs and elders who saw the lyrics as derogatory.

In a recent interview on Onua FM’s *Adwuma Adwuma* with Felicia Osei, Kurl Songx disclosed that the controversy reached a point where a meeting had to be convened with the Krobo elders to address their grievances. The meeting, held at a hotel in East Legon, included Kurl Songx, his manager, and Sarkodie’s late lawyer. They explained that the verse was meant to be artistic, not a personal attack on Krobo women.

Kurl Songx emphasized that Sarkodie’s words were intended as a form of creative expression rather than an effort to damage the reputation of Krobo women. He expressed relief that the elders were open to this explanation, which helped resolve the issue peacefully.

The incident highlighted the sensitive nature of cultural references in music, reminding artists of the potential impact their words can have on different communities.
