Darkovibes explains why artistes use ‘weed’ before recording or performances
Ghanaian musician Darkovibes has opened up about why he and some fellow artists occasionally use marijuana before stage performances and during studio recording sessions. In an interview on 3FM Drive on October 1, 2024, Darkovibes explained that they use the substance primarily to relax their minds, especially after long hours in the studio or ahead of demanding performances.
He noted, “We don’t walk around with stuff like that. It’s recreational. If we are singing and recording songs, then we use it to cool our brains because sometimes we sing for the whole day, 24 hours or 48 hours. So, it’s just to cool the brains a bit.”
Darkovibes also emphasized that while he may use marijuana in specific settings, such as the studio or before concerts, he is conscious about not carrying the substance in public. He added, “They search me. I even allow myself to be searched because if I have a gun or knife on me, they can arrest me, but I don’t even walk around with that.”
In his comments, he referenced Ghana’s Narcotics Control Commission Act 2020 (Act 1019), which permits the cultivation of cannabis for medical and industrial purposes. Darkovibes clarified that while he respects the law and complies with searches, he does not carry marijuana in public, reiterating that he believes in doing the right thing.
