Man ends it all after girlfriend threatened to leave him

A 36-year-old man has reportedly taken his own life in Ekumfi Srafa Mpoano, located in Ghana’s Central Region. The deceased, identified as Joe, allegedly ended his life after his girlfriend threatened to leave him due to financial difficulties and his inability to support her.
Health reports indicate that nearly 70% of suicides in Ghana are by men. In response, Parliament recently amended sections of the 1960 Criminal Offenses Act, reclassifying attempted suicide as a mental health issue needing support rather than punishment.
This tragic incident highlights the ongoing mental health challenges and the importance of supportive interventions in Ghana.
