Simi Encourages Parents to Raise Independent and Self-Sufficient Daughters

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has shared her thoughts on the importance of raising independent daughters.

In a recent TikTok video, Simi urged parents to avoid fostering dependency in their daughters, particularly in financial matters.

Simi emphasized that young women should grow up with a mindset of self-sufficiency, discouraging the idea that they should depend on others for their financial security.

“Don’t raise your daughters to believe they have to rely on someone else for their needs,” she said, advocating for financial independence as a key to confidence and security.

The ‘Joromi’ singer stressed that being able to support oneself is empowering, stating, “It’s crucial for women to know they can stand on their own. Self-reliance gives a sense of safety and confidence.” According to her, women should be able to enjoy the comforts of life because they can provide for themselves, not because they depend on others to do so.

Drawing from her own background, Simi acknowledged the support and encouragement she received while growing up, but she highlighted that not all women are as fortunate. Many women, she noted, do not have access to love, opportunities, or financial backing.

Simi concluded by encouraging those in positions of power to offer deserving women the opportunities they need to succeed, reinforcing the idea that empowering women benefits everyone. “Whenever you can, give a capable woman a chance to shine,” she urged.
