WAEC Faces Challenges in Releasing 2024 WASSCE Results Due to Financial Constraints

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced delays in the release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates. The delay is attributed to financial constraints, as the Council awaits the disbursement of additional funds from the Ministry of Education to settle an outstanding debt of GH¢118 million.

The funds are crucial for repairing scanning machines used for processing objective answer cards and completing other post-examination activities. These technical challenges arose after the exams, which were conducted between August 5 and September 20, 2024, and were followed by the marking of essays and practical components from November 7 to November 29.

WAEC has assured its cherished examination officials and suppliers that payments for their services will be made as soon as the necessary funds are released. Additionally, the Council has urged the public to ignore any unofficial dates circulating on social media regarding the release of results.

The Council remains committed to resolving the challenges and ensuring the timely release of the results once the issues are addressed. This update highlights the need for efficient resource allocation to support critical educational processes in the country.
