SDA Wenchi West District Honors 20 Girls for Preserving Their Virginity
The Wenchi West District of the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church, part of the Mid-West Ghana Conference in the Bono Region, honored 20 girls aged 13 to 16 for preserving their virginity during a special thanksgiving service. The event coincided with the observation of the first Sabbath Day of the year and was held in Wenchi over the weekend.
Each of the girls received undisclosed sums of money to support their upkeep as part of the celebration.
Mrs. Nana Amponsah Poku, the Wenchi West District Coordinator of the Young Adventist Women Ministries, praised the girls for their commitment to maintaining their purity. She encouraged them to continue preserving their virginity until marriage and advised them to be mindful of their friendships in the coming year.
“God created you uniquely beautiful, and you must not allow anyone to lure you into breaking your virginity before marriage,” she urged.
Mrs. Poku emphasized the ministry’s dedication to molding young women into responsible and useful adults in society. She called for a return to traditional practices that safeguarded the virtues of young girls, such as the Bragoro and Dipo puberty rites.
“These customs were instrumental in preserving virginity and curbing teenage pregnancies, which are detrimental to the growth and development of young girls and women,” she stated.
Pastor Andrews Dua Bour Kyere, Associate Pastor of the Wenchi West District of the SDA Church, also commended the girls for their exemplary conduct. He encouraged other girls in the church to remain pure and focus on their education.
Some of the honorees expressed their joy and gratitude, thanking the church for supporting their spiritual growth and personal development.
The event underscores the church’s commitment to fostering moral values and encouraging positive role models among young women in society.
