The event, held at Bawku Technical Institute, was organized by school authorities in collaboration with Kpalwega traditional rulers to address the recurring clashes between the two schools.
As part of the reconciliation efforts, the traditional leaders proposed the burial of the okra stick, a symbolic peace ritual meant to foster harmony.
However, tensions quickly escalated, leading to students from both schools hurling stones at each other, disrupting the proceedings and causing multiple injuries.
The Bawku Divisional Police Command swiftly intervened to restore order, preventing further violence. Meanwhile, the injured students were immediately rushed to Quality and Vineyard hospitals in Bawku for medical attention.
Despite the unexpected disruption, school authorities and the Ghana Education Service (GES) proceeded with the ritual, ensuring its successful completion with the involvement of senior prefects from both schools.
The incident highlights the ongoing tensions between the two schools and the urgent need for sustained peace-building efforts to prevent future conflicts.
