Paramount Chief of Talensi Backs Upper East Regional Minister, Calls for Unity and Action

The Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area, Tongraan Kugbilsong Nanlebegtang, has expressed strong support for the Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga, while urging residents to prioritize unity and collaboration over division.

Chief Advocates for Stability in Leadership

During a courtesy visit on Tuesday, Tongraan Nanlebegtang discouraged the growing trend of petitioning the presidency for the removal of regional ministers. He emphasized the need for stability and trust in leadership, noting that frequent changes hinder long-term development.

The chief praised Hon. Akamugri’s leadership skills and qualifications, describing him as the perfect fit for the role. He further pledged his full support and blessings for the minister’s success in driving the region’s development agenda.

Addressing Illegal Mining and Social Challenges

While endorsing the minister, Tongraan Nanlebegtang also raised key concerns affecting the Talensi Traditional Area:

• Teenage pregnancies and early marriages: He stressed the negative impact of these issues on education and community development, calling for targeted measures to protect young girls and promote education.

In response, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga expressed gratitude for the chief’s endorsement and acknowledged their longstanding relationship, dating back to his time as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Regional Secretary.

He assured Tongraan Nanlebegtang of his commitment to addressing these critical social and environmental concerns. The minister also emphasized the importance of partnership between traditional authorities and government in ensuring the NDC government fulfills its electoral promises.
