Assembly members will receive monthly allowances – Ato Forson

In the 2025 Budget presentation to Parliament on March 11, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announced a GH¢100 million allocation to provide monthly allowances for Assembly Members across the country. This initiative underscores the government’s recognition of the critical role Assembly Members play in grassroots governance and local development.

“Mr. Speaker, an amount of GH¢100 million has been allocated for the payment of monthly allowances to all Assembly Members,” Dr. Forson stated, highlighting the government’s commitment to supporting local officials.

For years, Assembly Members have faced financial challenges in fulfilling their responsibilities, often relying on personal funds to carry out their duties. This new allocation aims to ease that burden and improve service delivery at the district level, ensuring that Assembly Members are better equipped to manage local governance and drive community development.

This initiative forms part of a broader strategy by the Mahama administration to strengthen governance, create jobs, and revitalize the economy. By financially supporting local officials, the government seeks to enhance accountability, improve decision-making at the local level, and drive meaningful development in communities across the country.
